2019-2020 EXPLORE workshops

Join the Paper Museum beginning in September for the EXPLORE! homeschool workshops.

The EXPLORE! series consists of nine educational workshops dedicated to the art and science of paper. Perfect for homeschoolers or anyone looking to experience the diverse potential of paper.  Participate in one session or all— sign up for what your schedule allows.   All sessions led by museum staff. Registration opens on July 1, 2019.

Workshops are offered at 10:30am and 2:00pm on each program date.

 

Fees (per session): $6 for museum members, $8 for non-members

Space is limited, so register early!

Registration deadline is 1 week prior to each class. Payment is due at time of registration. Adult participation required. 

 

SPECIAL OFFER! Sign up and pay for the entire series by September 5, 2019 and receive $10 off per person, OR sign up and pay for any five workshops and receive $5 off per person.

Thursday, September 12: Paper Sculpture

Several artists featured in the Cut and Paste exhibit transform paper into sculpture. Be inspired by their works and make your own!

 

Thursday, October 10: Festive Fall Color Papermaking

The trees are turning beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow. Be inspired by the season in this hands-on papermaking workshop where you will make your own sheets of paper.

 

Thursday, November 21: “Stand Up, Stand Out: Creating Paper Worlds”

Make the 2-dimensional into 3-D! Use paper materials to imagine freestanding cityscapes or nature scenes.

 

Thursday, December 12: Memory Boxes

As the year comes to a close, learn how to make a unique memory box to store special mementos from 2019.

 

Thursday, January 16: Stamping Extravaganza

Sometimes a stamp is more than a stamp! Discover creative ways to use simple stamps to make elaborate designs and patterns.

 

Thursday, February 20: Lights! Camera! Paper! Exploring Paper Animation

Step into the world of stop-motion animation and produce your own moving picture. Cinema has never looked better!

 

Thursday, March 12: Comics

Visit Beyond Words, a special exhibit at the museum, to be inspired to create your own comic book that takes readers “beyond words.”

 

Thursday, April 16: Pop Up Pagoda

A fascinating artifact in the museum’s collection is the Hyakumantō darani, of the “One Million Pagoda Dharani.” Learn the history of this object, and then create your own pop-up version to take home!

 

Thursday, May 21: Layered Looks: Stenciled Pictures

Everything’s more fun with layers! We provide the stencils, you provide the imagination!
