A fascinating artifact in the museum’s collection is the Hyakumantō darani, of the “One Million Pagoda Dharani.” Learn the history of this object, and then create your own pop-up version to take home!

Why make pictures with paint when you can paint with paper pulp? The process of pulp painting creates images that don't sit on the page, but are the page. Pulp painting is a relatively new art form — explore how to make it your own. Participants will explore pattern making with pulp to create abstract images. Date Change - Suminagashi: Japanese Paper Marbling

Suminagashi means “ink floating on water,” and is the Japanese form of paper marbling. In this evening workshop, you will learn the basics of this method, and make your own beautiful marbled creations. All supplies will be provided and are included in the cost of the workshop. Reproductions of historic blocks from the museum’s collection are the stars of this printmaking experience.  Participants will create prints from reproduction wood blocks, with the option to layer images.  Join us for this unique printmaking experience and have a special reminder of the museum’s collection!
