Nancy Jacobi is the founder of The Japanese Paper Place in Toronto, a business which she began 40 years ago after her discovery of the paper’s potential while teaching English in Japan. Through supplying washi worldwide, offering workshops, lectures and washi exhibitions, the company continues its mission to encourage creativity with this inspiring art material. Her ongoing support of the skilled craftspeople who carry on this labor-intensive work begun 15 centuries ago, and her enthusiasm for artists who use it creatively remain undiminished. Her book covering the uses of washi worldwide from Rembrandt to contemporary superstars is in the works.
