Krista Park
This piece is comprised of three handmade paper “tags” made from the Korean technique known as “joomchi” and created from mulberry paper. The tags are a variety of colors, including purple, blue, green, pink, brown, and white. According to the artist, the illustrations are meant to portray people and abstract suburban landscapes.

With this beautiful, multi-colored piece, Krista Park reminds viewers that "shifts" can apply not only to people, but also to culture and landscapes

Artist's Statement:

"For this month, I used joomchi – Korean paper melting – to turn commercial mulberry paper into something special. As it felts, the paper shifts around, and I don’t exactly get the layout I started with. The artform requires embracing the uncertainty and shifts. The thread is handspun mulberry (commercial) thread. 

The illustrations focus on people and abstract suburban landscapes. The pieces form sets of labels. Thus, they force contemplation of the fluidity and framework of labels in culture."
