This piece, made from recycled paper, acrylic ink, and cotton string, is a 3D structure comprised of a honeycomb-like pattern of reed, yellow, and black circular swirls.

Highly unique 3D piece that demonstrates the versatility of paper when in the hands of a creative artist

Artist's Statement:

"Artwork: a three-dimensional piece with no specific purpose

Materials: handmade recycled paper, acrylic ink, cotton string

The creation of my work included the following processes – pulp blending, sheet forming, freezing and unfreezing, drying, spraying, rolling, coloring, cutting, tying. Many of these processes were used repeatedly, interchangeably. Currently I don’t have a designated space for drying paper so the traditional drying methods were not used. The paper dried on top of a cotton sheet and later on top of a fireplace."

This piece is a small sheet of rectangular paper made from bleached, overbeaten flax with pink, red, and green yarn and thread inclusions. There is a small strip of paper placed horizontally on the front of the paper with the words “Happy New Year fellow Papermakers” printed in cursive on it.

Small, experimental sheet of paper with a mildly coarse texture and brightly colored yarn/thread inclusions sprinkled at the top and bottom. Text reads "Happy New Year fellow Papermakers"

Artist's Statement: "This is bleached, overbeaten flax with yarn added for fun! The flax had been hidden in the back of my papermaking refrigerator for probably at least a year and required a fair amount of coaxing & beating to revive it! After pulling the sheets I lay them in my book press with about 1/3 hanging over the edge to encourage shrinkage. I pressed & exchanged dried the sheets for 2 days with satisfactory results."
