Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff, learn the basics of watercolor to create a koi pond. Participants will learn how to apply washes and layers to create a one-of-a-kind work of art. Starting with learning different techniques to create the look you want, participants will do a simple sketch and use the techniques to develop the painting.  All skill levels welcome and all materials provided. This workshop is for Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff only. Located in the Price Gilbert Library, AIRspace Room 2222

We are excited to have guest Artist Kelly Taylor Mitchel back for a papermaking workshop at the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking. In this two-hour workshop, participants will be introduced to blow out and deckle box papermaking techniques using flax and other fibers. This workshop is ideal for those with sheet formation experience, but beginners are welcome. Blow out and deckle box techniques bring collage methods to the vat and spark layering and material play.

Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff, pop into this workshop where you can explore different techniques to make pictures leap off the page.  Participants will learn about the engineering behind the jack and the box pop-up and then make their own kinetic card. Connect to others by sending your card to a friend to say hello with a “pop”. This workshop is for Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff only. Located in the Price Gilbert Library, AIRspace Room 2222.

Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff, light-up your space with your own handmade tea-light lanterns. Participants will have the opportunity to make two origami lanterns: the lotus blossom and star lantern. Learn how to fold translucent decorative paper into beautiful creations and then add tea lights to make them shine! This workshop is for Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff only.  Come for a night of family fun at the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking. This event is organized in collaboration with the Paper Girls Show. This drop-in style event will feature a papermaking station, winter themed origami activities, and a stop-motion paper animation station. Paper Girls Show videos and stop motion animations will be shown throughout the event. Additionally, the Paper Museum’s special exhibition Build It: create with cardboard! will be open for interactive fun.

Washi: Japanese Papermaking

In this one-day workshop, participants will learn how to form sheets of washi, or Japanese paper, using the nagashizuki sheet formation technique. We will cover how to prepare fiber, form sheets using a sugeta, and then press and dry sheets to make quality washi. Participants can expect to make their own set of washi sheets featuring the texture, luster, strength, and beauty that distinguishes it from other types of paper. All skill levels welcome and all materials provided.

We are excited to welcome families with children 8 years and older to come for a free cyanotype workshop, with guest artist Courtney Starrett. In this workshop Starrett will bring together art and science by utilizing cyanotypes, an early photographic process that uses sun, or UV light to develop the images. This workshop requires pre-registration and children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the program.

Quilling is a historic paper craft in which strips of paper are twirled, spun, and combined to create beautiful, dimensional works. Learn how to quill with simple materials to create a beautiful one-of-a-kind handmade ornament All skill levels welcome. This workshop is for Georgia Tech Students, Staff, and Faculty. Located in the Price Gilbert Library, Wilby Room G-120 of Crosland Tower, by the Blue Donkey.
