We are excited to have Barbara “Scout ”Ery, the Executive Director of Paper Circle coming from Ohio to lead a backyard fibers paper making workshop with us. Participants will learn about processing foraged fibers: from collection, to cooking, and beating of the fibers. Participants will have the opportunity to make sheets of their own paper from yucca and abaca fibers. Join us for this workshop and learn to make paper from plants that grow in your own yard!

Juried by Helen Hiebert and Eileen Wallace, the exhibition features 29 artists who answered the call to use the medium of paper to transform the chaos of life today into a vision of endless possibilities. Please join us to celebrate with some of the exhibiting artists and exhibit committee this beautiful and inspiring exhibition. Free and open to the public.

Discover how to create your own delicate designs using two simple materials: paper and a blade! First, wander through the Geormetric Aljamia exhibit to gain inspiration from a series of cut paper pieces based on sacred geometry: patterns whose mathematical foundations are universal and have variants across many cultures. Then, develop motifs to tessellate or tile, and, cut out your design. Pre-designed templates will also be available. All skill levels welcome and all materials provided.

Quilling is a historic paper craft in which strips of paper are twirled, spun, and combined to create beautiful, dimensional works. Wander through the Geormetric Aljamia exhibition and gain inspiration from artwork based on Islamic, Mediterranean and North African geometric patterns. Participants will have the option to design their own quilling template or use one that is provided. All skill levels welcome and all materials provided.

Professors Dr. Natalie Khazaal, Associate Professor in the School of Modern Languages and the Director of the Arabic, Middle East and North Africa programs and Dr. Mohammad Ghomi, Professor in the School of Mathmatics will interpret the concepts from the exhibit Geometric Aljamia: A Cultural Transliteration in their respective fields. Learn a bit more about Middle Eastern culture and the math found in the lovely geometric patterns of Islamic cultures.

A View Through the Arch: Tunnel Book

Create a fun and interactive book using the tunnel book structure, inspired by the artwork of Jorge Benitez, featured in the special exhibition Geometric Aljamia. Participants will  view the exhibition to spark their creativity and then create a tunnel book influenced by the architectural arches of the Middle East and Mediterranean Basin. The book consists of paper layers forming a “tunnel” with a foreground, mid-ground, and background.
