Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff, learn the basics of watercolor to create a koi pond. Participants will learn how to apply washes and layers to create a one-of-a-kind work of art. Starting with learning different techniques to create the look you want, participants will do a simple sketch and use the techniques to develop the painting.  All skill levels welcome and all materials provided. This workshop is for Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff only. Located in the Price Gilbert Library, AIRspace Room 2222

Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff, pop into this workshop where you can explore different techniques to make pictures leap off the page.  Participants will learn about the engineering behind the jack and the box pop-up and then make their own kinetic card. Connect to others by sending your card to a friend to say hello with a “pop”. Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff, light-up your space with your own handmade tea-light lanterns. Participants will have the opportunity to make two origami lanterns: the lotus blossom and star lantern. Learn how to fold translucent decorative paper into beautiful creations and then add tea lights to make them shine! This workshop is for Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff only. Quilling is a historic paper craft in which strips of paper are twirled, spun, and combined to create beautiful, dimensional works. Come clip, snip, and cut your way through a hands-on workshop focused on paper cutting. Discover how to create your own delicate designs using two simple materials: paper and a blade! In this workshop, we will explore historic Mexican paper cutting traditions, used in celebrations for, Dia de Muertos, Day of the Dead. These “Papel Picado,” or punched papers often feature patterns of skull and are placed around altars.

oin us for this fun workshop to explore an early type of camera-less photography. Use paper pre-coated with a mixture of chemicals, the power of the sun, and plants to create your own cyanotypes.  Participants will also learn about the history of cyanotypes from the technique’s invention, its first photographic use, to paper artists who create beautiful pieces of artwork. All materials provided.

Kozo is a Japanese fiber that when cooked and beaten can be made into beautiful sheets of handmade paper. The cooked fiber also can be pulled apart to create a lace-like effect. The “lace” Kozo can then be wrapped around objects to create delicate sculptures and containers. Participants are encouraged to bring small objects to use as a base for your own one-of-a-kind sculpture.

The petal-fold book technique combines book binding with origami to create a book that blooms, or unfolds, as it opens. The book has decorative, paper-wrapped tag board covers, 8 origami-folded pages with a ribbon binding and closure. Join us to learn this beautiful book-binding technique. All skill levels welcome and materials provided.
