This card-like piece is made of a pale yellow Costa Rican lemon paper with a square piece of interwoven white, blue, yellow, and green scraps of paper on the front.

"In the chapter of Moby Dick titled 'The Mat-Maker,' Ishmael theorizes that the three components of weaving: warp, woof and shuttle, can represent three forces of life: necessity, free will and chance. He concludes that although all three are 'interweavingly working together...chance has the last featuring blow at events.'"

A square, rectangular piece of white-grey paper with burnt umber colored stains splattered across the piece.

"There are little bits of past life hovering below our surface. Now and then they leach through to color our world and our work. Keys to doors that are long gone may still be with us but does it matter now if they were doors that we opened or ones that we locked shut?"
