Ziya Tarapore
Art Image
A piece of paper with an eco-print made from natural materials and acrylics. The print is comprised of abstract inkings of yellow, orange, navy, and forest green.

This piece brings to mind an impressionist painting, or perhaps the rolling, shifting background of a rococo painting.

Artist's Statement:

"The seasons shift, and we relocate to another city. The focus of my work shifts, from making paper to using paper. A new technique to try - eco printing, both with natural material and with acrylics. Wishing you the best in the holiday season. May you enjoy the company of loved ones and good health."

"Makeshift (On Getting By)" - Back

Artist Name
Stephanie Damoff
Art Image
This piece, entitled “Makeshift (On Getting By)”, is a horizontally-oriented rectangular piece of handmade paper made from pulp paint, recycled bedsheet, and garden waste. The piece is black and white, with a crater-like landscape painted on the front. The back of the piece is brown with straw-like pulp.

This dual-sided piece presents two ideas: the soft, delicate, moon-like pattern of the front stands in contrast with the brown, harsh, textured back.

Artist's Statement:

"In my makeshift paper making space I shift and transform materials: plants and water into paper, adding scrap materials: disintegrating clothing, purged journal pages, surplus photographs, yard waste, packaging, creating a visual language expressive of my journey through the world. I shift gears on my perspective and priorities, cutting out surrounding nonsense and noise, finding new homes for unneeded items through freecycle, donation, eBay. I muddle through my ever shifting landscape, fighting entropy and waste.

These shifting, drifting landscapes are made from pulp paint, recycled bedsheet, and garden waste: iris, daylily, lily-of-the-valley, spiderwort, lily, weeds."

Krista Park
Art Image
This piece is comprised of three handmade paper “tags” made from the Korean technique known as “joomchi” and created from mulberry paper. The tags are a variety of colors, including purple, blue, green, pink, brown, and white. According to the artist, the illustrations are meant to portray people and abstract suburban landscapes.

With this beautiful, multi-colored piece, Krista Park reminds viewers that "shifts" can apply not only to people, but also to culture and landscapes

Artist's Statement:

"For this month, I used joomchi – Korean paper melting – to turn commercial mulberry paper into something special. As it felts, the paper shifts around, and I don’t exactly get the layout I started with. The artform requires embracing the uncertainty and shifts. The thread is handspun mulberry (commercial) thread.

The illustrations focus on people and abstract suburban landscapes. The pieces form sets of labels. Thus, they force contemplation of the fluidity and framework of labels in culture."

This piece, entitled “Spinus tristis”, is made from a handmade sheet of beige Philipine Gampi paper and has two American Goldfinch heads printed on it in the middle. The text on the sheet reads “American Goldfinch” and “Spinus tristis” underneath.

A striking piece with two goldfinches printed on the front, demonstrating their change in color

Artist's statement:

"Spinus tristis

The American Goldfinch changes color from a bright yellow during breeding season to a dull olive green in the winter. To me, this illustrates the shift in color as well as the changing seasons.
