Join us for an artists talk with Georgia Deal, Marilyn Propp, & Gretchen Schermerhorn, three artists featured in the exhibit When Print Meets Paper. Each artist approaches a “marriage” of paper and print in unique ways, some coming from the lexicon of print and others from a primary focus and love of hand papermaking.  A commonality connects them with the historic origins of printmaking addressing social, political, and narrative themes.

Exploring ancient sites and rugged villages throughout the Indian sub-continent, the Himalayas and Central Asia for decades, paper historian, Alexandra Soteriou, charts the migration of papermakers and shares a seldom-seen view of their stories, secrets, materials, methods and artistic and decorative expressions.

Dr. Kimberly Diana Jacobs, places the African American artists featured in the Clark Atlanta University collection and the Collection of Wes and Missy Cochran into the context of 20th Century Art History. This lecture is in relation to our new changing exhibition A Community of Artists: African American Works on Paper from the Cochran Collection, which showcases fifty noted 20th century American artists. Join us for this virtual Lecture, Illuminating the Paper Vessel, with guest speaker Helen Hiebert, which will focus on Helen’s artistic research into creating sculptural paper forms, many of them rooted in Japanese tradition. Helen will talk about and show the similarities and differences between the construction of Japanese lanterns (chochin) and inflatable paper sculpture ranging from hot air balloons (large scale) to kamifusen (small paper balloons). 

Alison Valk, Instructional Coordinator and Multimedia Librarian for Georgia Tech Library, provides instruction on the basics of using iMovie to transform photos or video into stop motion movies with interesting effects.

Wondering about your animation career path? Come get some insight from multi-talented artist Vinod Krishnan, technical animation director at Disney who chased his dreams from Bahrain all the way to LA. Vinod has worked on a variety of projects from Avengers: Endgame, the Owl House, Disney's Amphibia, The Venture Bros, Rick and Morty, Black-ish, Grace and Frankie and is also active as a Wacom Artist Representative, Studio committee member at SIGGRAPH, as well as a part of ASIFA-South's business department committee member. 

Join us for this virtual Lecture, Stitch, dye, sculpt, fly - the endless versatility of Washi,  with guest speaker Nanci Jacobi. Washi means Japanese paper - Wa = Japanese and shi = paper. Jacobi’s love of Washi and its history led her to establish the Japanese Paper Place, in Toronto Ontario. The Japanese Paper Place is a major distributor of washi.

In celebration of Poetry month, join us for this fun workshop that combines bookbinding and poetry. Participants will learn how to make an octavo pamphlet binding, and then have the chance to write a simple poem to start the book off. Participants will also be given a list of daily poetry prompts for the month of April to further inspire poetic writings. Kit not included but supply list provided. All skill levels welcome!
